Introduction

Every issue, we aim to analyze and then solve a certain problem facing the internet. Our goal is to help our customers have a trouble free internet experience.

"The Problem"

Recently, we have noticed an increasing number of tech support phone calls related to Spyware issues. We wanted to take some time and help educate our users on what Spyware is, what it does, where you get it, and why you don't want it on your computer.

What is Spyware?

Spyware are programs that install themselves on your PC without your knowledge or consent.

What does Spyware do?

First, Spyware tracks what websites you visit. Once it tracks and collects a list of the web sites you visit, it will then send that information to a Database over the internet. This is called Data Mining. Once the Data Mining is complete, the Database Server will then send you a "pop up" advertisement based on your browsing habits.

How do I contract this Spyware?

Spyware loads itself through a "back door" when you install certain programs. These programs seem like legitimate free software. But when you agree to the terms and conditions of the software, you agree to install the spyware as well.

Why you do not want Spyware on your PC.

Data Mining is an intrusion to your privacy. Who would like their browsing habits catalogued by some advertising company? Spyware also uses up system resources. It uses your computers processor, ram and internet bandwidth. All of which, slow your PC down. And lastly, Spyware generates pop-up ads.

The Solution.

Step one, don't click on anything that you do not know about or trust. Everyday, you are probably assaulted with some type of pop-up ad stating: "Click here to install this *FREE* software. The *SPYWARE* toolbar is known to be safe." If this happens, the safest and best thing to do is click on the "X" in the upper right hand corner to close that window.

Second, Use adware and spyware scanners. These programs function much like antivirus programs. You can scan your computer for known Spyware programs and remove them from your system. Our Access Xtreme Accelerator comes with a build in Adware / Spyware scanner. It is a good idea to run more then one Spyware scanner however. These scanners can be downloaded, free of charge, from our “Download” section on our main site.

Last step, always keep your Spyware scanners up-to-date.

If you took all three of these steps, your PC should be reasonably secure from Spyware. If you would like to get the Access Xtreme Accelerator, contact a sales rep at 1-888-884-4995
